Getting here and travelling around Halland

Halland’s well-developed infrastructure and good geographical location makes the region easy to reach however you choose to travel. Halland runs down Sweden’s West Coast and is sandwiched between two larger regions – Gothenburg and Malmö/Copenhagen. The Öresund Bridge linking Sweden to Denmark and the rest of Continental Europe makes the West Coast easily accessible from the rest of the world.

Halland can be reached by car, bus, train, air, bike, motorbike or boat, and transport within the region runs smoothly.
 
Halland by car – The E6 motorway runs straight through Halland, linking all the towns along the way. For a more scenic route by car or motorbike, the coast road runs between Falkenberg and Halmstad, following the sea.
 
Halland by bus – Reaching Halland by bus couldn’t be easier. As the region lies between Gothenburg and Malmö, it is frequently served by buses. Halland’s public transport operator Hallandstrafiken provides excellent bus and train transport throughout the region.

Halland by train – The West Coast railway line runs through Halland from north to south. Krösatågen trains run inland and are a joint venture between the county transport companies of Jönköping, Kalmar, Halland and Kronoberg.

Halland by air – Halland has its own airport, Halmstad City Airport with direct flights to and from Stockholm every day. The airport has customs rights and charter flights depart to some destinations outside Sweden. Ängelholm Helsingborg Airport is 30 minutes south of Halmstad and north-west of Halland is Göteborg-Landvetter airport.

Halland by boat – A Stena Line ferry runs to Varberg from Grenå in Denmark. The crossing takes 4 hours and 25 minutes.

Halland by bike – Halland is an excellent destination for cyclists with plenty of glorious cycling routes.
 
The Ginstleden trail runs down the coast from the Hallandsås ridge in the south to the county boundary in the north. Cykelspåret Hallands inland is an inland cycle trail, as its name suggests, passing forests and lakes. Hylteslingan is a circular route through Halland’s “wilderness”, the lake district and to Simlångsdalen.
