Tjolöholms Slott
The premier arts- and crafts facility in Scandinavia
Tjolöholm Castle, open to the public all year round, is said to be one of the most impressive buildings in Sweden. The lavish castle was completed in 1904 and, as was common of that time, palace architect Lars Israel Wahlman didn’t just draw the castle, but also the adjoining park. Closest to the castle the garden is strict and pruned to then gradually conform to the surrounding landscape making the castle appear as if it rises out of its surroundings.
Tjolöholm has had a long tradition of bathing. Many generations of visitors have enjoyed a dip in the seawater below the castle. The large lawns are perfect for a sunny picnic by the sea. On really hot summer days, many people cool off under huge, leafy trees that have long witnessed the passing of time.
Today, there is a small sandy beach for the very youngest visitors and a bathing jetty with disabled access.
